Two-time Super Bowl champion Lawrence Taylor is a founding partner at eXfuze. Taylor is a member of the NFL Hall of Fame and played his entire career at linebacker for the New York Giants. "LT", as he is known by NFL fans around the world, was a three-time defensive player of the year and named NFL MVP for his performance during the 1986 season. He is considered to be one of the greatest defensive players in the history of football, and has often been called the greatest defensive player of all time by media members, former players, and coaches.
Taylor was born February 4, 1959 in Williamsburg, Virginia, to a working-class family (his father worked as a dispatcher at the Newport News Naval shipyard, while his mother was a schoolteacher), where he learned early in life the value and rewards of hard work.
After an All-American career at the University of North Carolina, Taylor was drafted by the Giants with the second overall selection in the 1881 NFL Draft. Taylor rewarded the Giants for their confidence in him by winning several defensive awards including NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Taylor promply became a disruptive force at outside linebacker and is considered to have changed the pass rushing schemes, offensive line play and formations used in the league.
On the field, Taylor produced double-digit quarterback sacks seasons from 1984 through 1990, including a career high of 20.5 in 1986, was named All-Pro in each of his first nine seasons, and was a key member of the Giants' feared defense, nicknamed "The Big Blue Wrecking Crew" that led New York to victories in Super Bowls XXI and XXV.
Taylor is considered to be one of the greatest defensive players in the history of football, and has been ranked as the greatest defensive player in history by media members, former players, and coaches. He is also widely considered to be one of the most feared players to ever step onto the football field. Taylor's explosive speed and power is credited with having changed the position of outside linebacker from a "read and react" type of position to a more attacking, aggressive position.
According to former coach and current TV sportscaster, John Madden, "Lawrence Taylor, defensively, has had as big an impact as any player I've ever seen. He changed the way defense is played, the way pass-rushing is played, the way linebackers play and the way offenses block linebackers."
During his career as a player and for several years after his retirement, Taylor often lived a controversial lifestyle. Lawrence has openly admitted to using and being addited to illicit drugs. But Taylor has cleaned up his lifestyle and lived a sober, drug-free life since 1998.
Since his retirement, Taylor has worked as a color commentator on sporting events, a pro wrestler, an actor - appearing in the Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday, The Sopranos, and The Waterboy - and he has done voice-over work on several popular video games. He is currently pursuing a successfulo career as a business man.
But Lawrence has worked hard to successfully overcome his health and personal issues to get his life in order. He has cleaned up his life and lived a healthy, clean lifestyle since 1998.
